En un hotel de la ribera se cruzan dos relatos: un anciano poeta, invitado a alojarse gratuitamente por el propietario, convoca a sus dos hijos distanciados, sintiendo que su vida se acerca a su fin; y una joven mujer con el corazón recientemente roto recibe la visita de una amiga que intenta consolarla. Por momentos estas historias se superponen, por otros corren tentadoramente cerca la una de la otra.

Utilizando una paleta en blanco y negro y una cinematografía manual, Hong hace un examen de la familia, la mortalidad y las formas en que intentamos curar las heridas antiguas y recientes.

Hotel by the River

Two tales intersect at a riverside hotel: an elderly poet, invited to stay there for free by the owner, summons his two estranged sons, sensing his life drawing to a close; and a young woman nursing a recently broken heart is visited by a friend who tries to console her. At times these threads overlap, at others they run tantalizingly close to each other.

Using a stark black-and-white palette and handheld cinematography, Hong crafts an affecting examination of family, mortality, and the ways in which we attempt to heal wounds old and fresh.
