La culpa
El operador telefónico de emergencias Asger Holm responde a una llamada
de urgencia de una mujer secuestrada. Cuando la llamada se desconecta
repentinamente, comienza la búsqueda de la mujer y su secuestrador. Con
el teléfono como única herramienta, Asger entra en una carrera contra el
tiempo para salvar a la mujer en peligro. Pero pronto se da cuenta de
que está lidiando con un crimen que es mucho más grande de lo que pensó
inicialmente.
Rodado íntegramente dentro de la oficina en la que tiene su sede Asger, y
por lo tanto requiriendo que el público se imagine lo que está
ocurriendo del otro lado de la acción, La culpa, sin embargo,
ejerce una atracción que nunca disminuye. No es una película perfecta
-en algunos lugares la trama parece rebuscada-, pero el diálogo bien
escrito, una actuación fuerte en todos los sentidos y una dirección
discreta pero tensa le dan una fuerza real. A pesar de los problemas con
el guión, hace un buen trabajo liberando información lo suficiente como
para despertar sospechas desde el principio sin darlo todo por perdido
hasta el final, momento en el que los temas subyacentes pasan a un
primer plano y se nos recuerda que la resolución de rompecabezas en la
que nos hemos visto envueltos es solo una parte de un panorama mucho más
amplio. Este espejo es el viaje de Asger a medida que se da cuenta de
lo que significa actuar con muy poca información, o sin tener en cuenta
las consecuencias más amplias. Un thriller original por donde se lo mire.

The Guilty
Alarm dispatcher Asger Holm answers an emergency call from a kidnapped
woman. When the call is suddenly disconnected, the search for the woman
and her kidnapper begins. With the phone as his only tool, Asger enters a
race against time to save the endangered woman. But soon he realizes
that he is dealing with a crime that is far bigger than he first
thought.
Shot entirely within the office suite where Asger is based, and thereby
requiring the audience to imagine what's going on at the heart of the
action, The Guilty nevertheless exerts a grip that never slackens. It's
not a perfect film - in places the plot feels contrived - but
well-written dialogue, strong acting all round and unobtrusive but taut
direction give it real strength. Despite the problems with the script it
does a pretty good job of releasing information just enough to prompt
suspicions early on without giving everything away until close to the
end, at which point underlying themes move to the fore and we are
reminded that the puzzle-solving we've been drawn into is only part of a
much bigger picture. This mirror's Asger's own journey as he gradually
realises what it means to act on too little information, or without
regard for the wider consequences.
