La bella y la bestia
Una versión más aterradora y sombría de La bella y la bestia.
Julie, la hija menor de un comerciante en bancarrota, sacrifica su vida
para salvar a su padre. Va a un castillo encantado en el bosque y conoce
a Netvor, un monstruo con forma de pájaro. Mientras Netvor comienza a
enamorarse de Julie, debe reprimir su bestial impulso de matarla.
[..] De hecho, toda la película es un festín visual, con Herz
divirtiéndose con los colores de la oscuridad y la luz, con Julie
constantemente bañada en una luz suave y hermosa, mientras que la bestia
se esconde entre las sombras oscuras del castillo. Desde el punto
de vista del rodaje, Herz es muy ingenioso al elegir siempre ángulos
interesantes, a menudo filmando a través de objetos para dar la
sensación de estar participando en una capacidad voyeurista, muy
parecida a la de la propia bestia. Su uso del color está especialmente
bien hecho. Las escenas en la nieve con la bestia observando desde
arriba fueron particularmente bien manejadas. En general, me enamoré de
la versión de La bella y la bestia de Juraj Herz y de hecho ya la
he visto dos veces. Es una emocionante versión oscura del cuento

Beauty and the Beast
A more horrific and gloomy version of The Beauty and the Beast.
Julie, the youngest daughter of a bankrupt merchant, sacrifices her
life in order to save her father. She goes to an enchanted castle in the
woods and meets Netvor, a bird-like monster. As Netvor begins to fall
in love with Julie, he must suppress his beastly urge to kill her.
[...] In fact the whole film is a visual feast, with Herz having
great fun with both darkness and light, with Julie constantly bathed in
soft beautiful light, whilst the beast is hidden within the dark shadows
of the castle. From a shot perspective, Herz is very inventive choosing
interesting angles always, often shooting through objects to give you
the feeling you are participating with the film in a voyeuristic
capacity much like the beast himself. His use of colour is especially
well done. The scenes in the snow with the beast watching from above
were particularly well handled. Overall, I fell in love with Juraj
Herz's version of Beauty and the Beast and have in fact already
watched it twice. It is a thrilling dark take on the classic tale and I
