Danielle es una viuda anciana amargada que regaña y obliga a trabajar hasta morir a su igualmente anciana compañera, la ama de llaves Odile. Danielle encuentra nuevas víctimas para su comportamiento extremadamente egoísta, hiriente y resueltamente antisocial cuando acuerda mudarse con su sobrino nieto Jean-Pierre y su familia. Cuando la familia se toma unas merecidas vacaciones en el extranjero, una mujer llamada Sandrine se encarga de cuidar a Danielle. Sandrine es tan cínica, antipática e indiferente como Danielle y tiene una visión parecida del mundo, lo que hace que las dos establezcan una especie de amistad. Sin embargo, las dos malhumoradas pronto se pelean y una tía Danielle furiosa lleva a cabo un acto de venganza sumamente agresivo...
Me reí mucho con las maldades de esta vieja en su momento. Tal vez el tiempo ya la ha atacado un poco, pero igual la comparto para quienes gustan del humor ácido. La actriz ya fallecida Tsilla Chelton también trabajó con Chabrol en el episodio Le Petit Fût (2008) de la serie de TV francesa Chez Maupassant

Danielle is an embittered elderly widow who literally nags and works her equally elderly companion-cum-housekeeper Odile to death. Danielle finds new targets for her extremely selfish, hurtful and resolutely anti-social behaviour when arrangements are made for her to move in with her great nephew Jean-Pierre and his family. When the family take a well earned holiday abroad, a live-in carer called Sandrine is employed to look after Danielle. Sandrine is just as cynical, unsympathetic and uncaring as Danielle and their common world-view results in the pair striking up a happy friendship of sorts. However, the two malcontents soon fall out and a furious Danielle effects an extremely petulant act of revenge.
