Siglo XVII. Marin Marais (Gérard
Depardieu), músico de la corte de Luis XIV, recuerda su relación con
Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe (Jean-Pierre Marielle), su maestro en el arte
de la viola da gamba.
Exquisita en lo formal aunque quizá algo fría en su conjunto, Tous les matins du monde,
adaptación de la novela homónima de Pascal Quignard, supone el trabajo
más prestigioso del realizador galo Alain Corneau, conocido
principalmente por sus incursiones en el cine negro. La película se centra en la relación maestro-discípulo que existió entre
Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe y Marin Marais, dos de los compositores más
importantes del Barroco francés. El violagambista y musicólogo catalán
Jordi Savall, toda una eminencia en la materia, fue el responsable de la
maravillosa banda sonora del film, que incluye piezas de

The story of a mysterious and ornery
17th century French master of the viola da gamba (predecessor of the
cello) and his flawed protégé Marin Marais, who
didn’t learn how to overcome the spiritual emptiness of his music until
old age and sold out his art for the lure of fame and fortune as the
court composer at Versailles. The high concept art film lets its music
do the communicating, and that effectively covers the central theme that
music, drawn from the silence of the heart and mind, must be felt since
it says what cannot be said. The music was arranged and
performed by Jordi Savall.
