Arsenevich: René Clair - Porte des Lilas (1957)

En medio del popular barrio parisino de Puerta de las lilas, un adorable borrachín (Brasseur) y un artista ( Brassens) alojan en su casa a un fugitivo que acaba de cometer un robo y es buscado por la policía.

Entre las baladas del artista y el buen corazón del bonachón de Juju el film enlaza amor, crimen, drama, comedia y romance. René Clair utiliza decorados y escenarios que rebosan artificiciosidad, que se remarca incluso en la puesta en escena como un cuento de hadas donde mezcla inocencia, alegría, fantasía e imaginación.

A guitar player who calls himself "The Artist" strikes up a friendship with a dim-witted slob named Juju, who drinks too much and who has taken a fancy to Maria, the daughter of his pub landlord. To repay a small gesture of friendship, Juju steals several tins of pàté de foie gras from a grocer's shop. At the time, the police are evacuating the area because a notorious armed crook is in the vicinity. When they learn that the police are carrying out a house to house search, Juju and the artist throw the tins of pàté out of a window, and, after the search, they go and retrieve them. Returning to the artist's shack, they are confronted by the crook, Pierre Barbier. They agree to shelter him, in the cellar. To the artist's amazement, Juju goes to extraordinary lengths to help Barbier, even to the extent of giving up Maria to him...

Clair logra conjugar los elementos del drama y la comedia en una historia terrible de búsqueda de la inocencia humana. El protagonista, Brasseur, fue quien propuso la novela de Fallet. El Maestro recuerda: "Era un buen tema para mi, y Brasseur hizo todo sencillo. El escenario es un ejemplo de como los dramas resultan mas fáciles de abordar que las comedias".
